David Nygren, PhD, works with client executive and governance leaders on a range of issues closely connected to both clarifying the strategy and linking to key initiatives to ensure its success. David advises both Fortune 500 and non-profit clients, where he works extensively with health systems, arts institutions, and foundations.
Typical client work includes:
- Planning and facilitating sessions that align the board and executive leadership on strategic imperatives and action-oriented follow-up;
- A complete range of both board and executive assessments; and
- Advising in areas critical to board performance, including board composition, process, structure, strategic planning, committee effectiveness, and leadership
David established Nygren Consulting, LLC in 2007 after ten years at Mercer Delta Consulting, LLC, where he was founding Senior Partner of the Corporate Governance Consulting Group. Earlier, David was Executive Vice President at DePaul University, where he was a tenured professor teaching organizational theory and design, leadership, and corporate governance.
David has also held research and teaching appointments at Boston University Graduate School of Management, Yale University’s Program on Non-Profit Governance and Finance, Harvard University New President’s Program Faculty, the Association of Governing Boards of Independent Colleges and Universities, the American Symphony Orchestra League, the American Hospital Association, and the Haas Graduate School of Business.
David served as a Member of the corporation of DePaul University, Chicago in 1991, a trustee of St. John’s University, New York in 1992, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 1995, director of the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University in 2004, Chairman of the Board of the National Association of Corporate Directors Northern California in 2005, a director of Larkin Street Youth Services in 2002, Chairman of BoardSource in 2006, and Chairman of the Ojai Music Festival in 2014.
