JoAnn McNutt

JoAnn McNutt, PhD, an organizational consultant, joined Nygren Consulting, LLC, in 2008. Previously, she was a consultant at Mercer Delta Consulting, LLC, and a member of the Corporate Governance Consulting Group for seven years. JoAnn works with CEOs, boards of directors, and senior executives on governance, leadership development and assessment, and strategic organizational alignment.

Prior Experience

Before joining Mercer Delta Consulting, JoAnn was an organizational development specialist while interning with PeopleSoft eCenter in Pleasanton, California. JoAnn also served for 12 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, reaching the rank of Captain in the Medical Service Corps. She was the Company Commander of a combat support hospital based in Oakland, California, and was a cadre member of the 63rd Regional Readiness Command's Company Team Leadership Development Program, where she taught change management.

Keeping Current on Governance

JoAnn has extensive experience designing assessment methods and data analysis strategies, specifically in the areas of board, chair, CEO, director, and committee assessments. She combines content knowledge in corporate governance, quantitative and qualitative research, and an educational background in organizational behavior and psychology. JoAnn guides boards facing a wide array of challenges, including major organizational restructuring initiatives, strategic planning and implementation, and board and management alignment. Clients include the boards of directors of both Fortune 500 corporations and nonprofit institutions.

JoAnn serves her community, sharing her governance knowledge and expertise, as a board director for the Family Service Agency of San Francisco, the largest private non-sectarian human services provider in San Francisco.

As a social and organizational psychologist, JoAnn has investigated topics ranging from organization's role in supporting military personnel who are returning to the workforce, to best practices in governance and board effectiveness.

JoAnn recently completed Director's College at Stanford Law School.
