Jeanne Amster

Jeanne Amster, EdD, has served as a consultant and coach for a variety of for profit and nonprofit clients, as well as a director and co-founder of a successful entrepreneurial technology start up. She specializes in strategic planning, leadership coaching, governance, and education technology.

Prior Experience

Before becoming a consultant, Jeanne held a variety of senior positions in education, starting at Phillips Academy, which she joined as a teacher of history and economics in 1977, becoming their Dean of Studies in 1983. In 1987, while completing her doctorate at Harvard, she was Special Assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School of Education, reviewing issues of institutional and public policy. In addition, Jeanne has taught History of Education at Brown University, and has worked for the Aspen Institute. In 1991, she was appointed Director of the three-campus Ethical Culture Fieldston Schools in New York City. In 1997, Jeanne moved to the West Coast to assume the position of Head of School at the San Francisco University High.

Keeping Current on Governance

Jeanne’s nonprofit board work includes serving in various capacities, including as Vice President, on the Mount Holyoke College Board from 1993 to 2004, on the board of San Francisco Day School from 1998 to 2005, as Vice President of the New York State Association of Independent Schools from 1993 to 1997, and as Treasurer of the National Association of Principals of Schools for Girls from 1996 to 2000. She recently returned to the Mount Holyoke Board and chaired the committee of trustees, alumni, faculty, staff, and students that conducted and completed the search for Mount Holyoke’s 18th President.
